The Construction Industry
Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia, in partnership with the Works Ministry,
organised a seminar titled, "Eleventh Malaysia Plan-Realising Green
Growth: Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure as the Game Changer" held
at Sunway Putra Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
The one-day session on May 12
aimed at further facilitating the green growth agenda in the country. The seminar’s agenda involved a ministerial
roundtable, forums and exhibitions which gathered policy makers, government
officials and corporate leaders, to discuss action plans and strategies
outlined in the 11th Malaysia Plan.
Ekovest Berhad participated in
the seminar with 20 of its employees, partaking in the seminar’s forums and
talks. Additionally, Datuk Seri Lim Keng
Cheng, Ekovest Berhad’s Managing Director, was a panel speaker at the Industry
forum, titled “Best Practices in Sustainability: Implementation and Reporting”.
Datuk Seri Lim Keng Cheng,
told of his experiences in ensuring resiliency in one of his projects, namely
the UTHM. Describing how the water table
was previously higher than the ground level, the practical solution of creating
4 ponds to retain the excess water, not only ensured that the campus would not be
flooded anymore, but also created a pleasant landscape for members of the university
to experience.
The seminar provided for an
important platform for government officials and key stakeholders to not only address
pertinent challenges and strategies, but also to exchange and explore views on
effective policies, practices and experiences to drive the green agenda in
Malaysia.
Furthermore, the official
address and official launching of the Malaysian Carbon Reduction &
Environmental Sustainability Rating Tools (MyCREST), was launched today at the
CIDB seminar. MyCREST is a tool to help the cause whereby the government is determined
to achieve and exceed the nation’s sustainability environmental targets under
the CITP and the 11th Malaysia Plan.
MyCREST, a sustainability rating tool introduced by the Ministry of Works through the Public Works Department (JKR) and CIDB, aims to quantify and lower the carbon footprint of construction projects, by guiding the design, construction and operation of buildings in a low-carbon and sustainable manner. MyCREST takes into account 11 criteria’s, ranging from the pre-design phase, up to the stage of sustainable facility management, with points awarded based on carbon emission reduction efforts.
